Best outgoing student award for Diploma in critical care. (Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine), 2008
I developed and single handily run the 11 bedded ICU at B.K.L. Walawalkar hospital right from the beginning (no other intensivist involved ). I was involved in setting it up including the choice of various equipments. It is a general ICU which handles medical, surgical, gynaecology-obstetrics and poly- trauma patients.
I have achieved a mortality rate of 15-17% consistently despite working with a nurse: patient ratio of 1:30 to 1:4 (most of the nurses join as fresher after completing GNM) and BAMS/BHMS interns working as ICU registrars.
All this is done in a hospital located in a typical village of Konkan, Maharastra.
